Pete:
So we've got the TomTom ONE and the TomTom GO, they've just announced a new range.
Carl:
Oooh! - what does it do this time?
Pete:
This is called the TomTom START, well naturally, and actually it's TomTom's new entry-level product. The TomTom One was always their basic model, with the GO being their more hi-tech range. The Start has been brought in to compete with some of the lower-end Garmin Nuvi devices that you can get for under £100.
Carl:
So they've done the modern film technique - the prequel to the whole range? We're doing story one, two, three, four - the whole trilogy or whatever has come out, and now we're doing the prequel? - before he became Superman, yeah?
Pete:
Pretty much. So this is a slightly smaller unit than the typical ONE, it's got a 3.5 inch screen, it's got a very basic interface, so it hasn't got all the bells and whistles and weather and live travel and all that, it's quite a basic, "get me from A to B" type navigation, but it does use their IQ maps, which are these clever maps which work out what time of day it is, and whether it's going to be a busy journey or not, which is pretty cool.
Carl:
So it's one for your grandmother for Christmas - it's that what you're trying to tell me?
Pete:
There's six different colours, you can get these Xpress-On Nokia type covers for it, and get it in six colours now. So, how much, do you think?
Carl:
Oh well, if it's an easy one - £155, maximum?
Pete:
It's £120 for the UK version, or around about £150 for the European version. (Try Play.com)
Carl:
So, that's all right? - you get a bit of change.
Pete:
There you go, and I found something very nice for you, while I was on the TomTom site researching this, they now have a new official voiceover that you can download for your TomTom.
Carl:
Is it mine?
Pete:
It's not, it's Homer Simpson.
Carl:
Doh! Doh! So, he'll be able to find his way home to Springfield, quite easily now?
Pete:
That's the one, download it from the TomTomTomTomTom website.
Carl:
Naturally, yes.
