In March 2010, the FrequencyCast team were out and about at the Dabs.com Live Gadget show in London's Wembley Stadium. Here's a transcript of our interview with Camille Martin, Account Manager at Lacie, where we discuss their HD offering:

La Cinema Mini HD Review:

Pete:

OK, so once again we're back at the Dabs Show, looking at some wonderful new bits of kit in sunny Wembley, and I'm in front of a stand from a company called Lacie talking to a gentleman by the name of Cam. Bonjour, Cam.

Cam:

Bonjour, bonjour.

Pete:

There we go, unusual accent there?

Cam:

Yeah, I'm French, like the company, but I've been here for years, so I'll try not to disappoint you too much with my French accent.

Pete:

So we're looking at a piece of kit here that's connected to a TV?

Cam:

That's right, we just released a product called La Cinema Mini HD, which is a media player, so basically you can load any media content onto it, and be able to watch it on your HD TV, so it's full HD, 1080p, and supports lots of different formats, including the latest MKV, Xvids, mpeg4, etc, so you won't be limited to that.

Pete:

Got some DivX there as well?

Cam:

DivX as well, DivX certified.

Pete:

And how much storage has this got?

Cam:

It's got 500 GB embedded, and you can also connect an external device to convert your content onto your TV.

Pete:

So the practical upshot for me is I have a fair amount of videos that either I've downloaded, or burnt from a DVD, or I've taken from a camcorder, I can just put those on a memory stick or on a hard drive, plug it in, and I've got my 1080p - is that right?

Cam:

That's correct, yes.

Pete:

This is a network connected device, so it's wireless, so could I use it as a wireless back-up device?

Cam:

You can use it as a wireless back up device, you can also drag and drop your media content while listening, and you can also stream media, if you've got a uPnP or DLNA device, wirelessly, which is also quite convenient.

Pete:

Well, I'm rather impressed with this box - what was the model of this again?

Cam:

It's called La Cinema Mini HD.

Pete:

Just give me an idea of the retail price for this?

Cam:

The retail price, £180 plus VAT.

Pete:

And this is just out - is that right?

Cam:

Yes, a few days ago.

Pete:

Wonderful, excellent, Cam - thank you very much.

Cam:

Thank you very much.
