Show 75 NEWS
Here's a look at the news stories covered in Show 75:
- Freesat G2 Boxes: At Gadget Show Live, a sign on the Freesat stand announced some big changes coming soon. We understand that "next generation" Freesat boxes are to be announced any day soon. Rumours are that new boxes will support more content over the Internet, and the option to pay for premium content. More on this when we have it.
- Google Drive Launches: Love Google and want to give them all your documents? Last month Google launched its Cloud Storage solution, Google Drive. Store up to 5GB of data for free, and access your documents via a browser, desktop or portable device. Google Drive lets you perform a plain text search on the contents of your documents, but Google may use the contents of your documents to decide what type of advertising to show you.
- YouView Delays: Next - More bad news for those waiting for the new YouView service accounted back in 2008... it's been delayed again.
- o2's Wallet: The next step in the cashless society has just been launched. O2 Wallet is now available as a smartphone app - this lets you send up to £500 to anyone via a text message. You pre-load money from a bank or credit card, and can send money or shop online from your mobile. You can also get a contactless card that will let you use your wallet on the high street. The mobile app also lets you scan products before you buy, to see if you can use your wallet to get them cheaper elsewhere.
- Get Your BT Phone Box! Here's your chance to own a unique piece of heritage. BT is selling off its old red K6 phone boxes. For just under £2,000 + VAT you can buy a refurbished BT phone kiosk - We're told they make great greenhouses. More: www.x2connect.com/shop/BT__Red_Phone_Boxes_.php
- And finally... an end to dirty phone calls. Ever thought about how many germs your mobile phone picks up in an average day? It's likely to hold more bacteria than a public loo. The solution is almost here, in the form of a new mobile phone charger. Called the PhoneSoap, this zaps your phone with UV light whilst charging, to kill off the nasties. Expected price, $40.

Cast 75: Interactive
Thanks to everyone who got in touch for this show. This show's feedback was recorded on board the LV18 Light Vessel.
In this show, we respond to the following mails and calls:
Streaming BBC iPlayer on Apple TV:
Roger Fleming asks: "How can I stream bbc iplayer through Apple TV to ordinary HD TV"
The BBC iPlayer isn't supported by Apple TV box as yet, however you can stream BBC iPlayer from an iPad or iPhone to a TV via an Apple TV box using Airplay on the iPhone or iPad. From the BBC iPlayer app, double-tap the Home button and scroll left twice to find the Airplay button.
When can I get YouView?
Darren Ney got in touch to ask: "Any more info on when the YouView service is due to start. I have held of getting the basic BT Vision package as it don't come with Freeview HD"
The saga continues on this one. YouView was announced in 2008 and was planned for 2010. It's set to combine Freeview with catchup TV and content over the Internet. Lord Sugar came on board and we were promised YouView before the Olympics. It now seems that the date's been pushed back to the end of the year, and may be overtaken by Freesat G2, covered in our news roundup.
It's all gone rather quiet with Real Digital too - the new satellite TV service. At the time of recording, their site is reporting maintenance work, and boxes still aren't on sale.
Gadget Show: World Tour
Andrew Gates had the following to say about the new-look Gadget Show on Channel 5:
"As a Gadget Show fan I think that it's a risky strategy to get rid of 60% of the presenters in one move. Personally, I think they should of done this over 2 seasons, maybe leaving Suzi or Ortis for this season to see how well the new format works. I like Jason and Polly, but are they enough?"
Any comments on the new-look Gadget Show? Get in touch.
Changes to PMR?
Oh - A quick question from me... we heard a rumour that rules on PMR licence-free radios have been relaxed, and use of non-fixed aerials may have been approved. Anyone know if this is true? Please let us know.
Too much Apple at Gadget Show Live?
Bazza had this to say on our special audio update from Gadget Show Live last month "Anyone listening would be forgiven if they thought you were reporting on the iGadget Show. Well *#!$* those others not in the high market share, they don't deserve a mention!"
You're not wrong - there were a lot of iPhone and iPad products at this year's show. Very little in the way of new tech for Android phones and tablets, or the new Windows phones... which was a real shame. If you've found a gadget or app we should cover, get in touch
FrequencyCast on Android?
And staying with Android... Andy says: "I Can't seem to find "FrequencyCast" on Googleplay, which has replaced market! "
The FrequencyCast app is still available for free for Android mobile phones and tablets via Google Play. See our FrequencyCast on a Mobile page for details.
Our app's also available from the iTunes App Store here: FrequencyCast App on iTunes.
