Teletext to close in January 2010

Teletext screen captureEveryone remembers good old Teletext. The only real way to get on-demand content before the net came along. Ceefax and Teletext are set to be retired after the Digital Switchover is complete, in favour of the more high-tech “press the red button” digital TV service.

It seems that Teletext, as used on ITV and Channel 4, is now set to go earlier than that.

January 2010 will see analogue teletext go, and some content will also go from the interactive service on digital TV. Travel remains profitable, so it seems that service will remain.
