In March 2010, the FrequencyCast team were out and about at the Dabs.com Live Gadget show in London's Wembley Stadium. Here's a transcript of our interview with Nick Walsh from PSA Parts Ltd, recorded at the show
Duracell In-car USB charger review:
Carl:
Right, we're still here at the Dabs Show in central London, and in my hand I have a nice little pink bunny, and a chap called Nick who owns this pink bunny. Just tell us who you are, Nick?
Nick:
I'm Nick Walsh, and I'm the Sales Manager for PSA Parts Ltd.
Carl:
OK, but the reason the pink bunny's here is ...?
Nick:
Because we are Europe's sole licensee for Duracell digital camera and camcorder battery packs that enables us to sell the entire Duracell range, and this includes a snazzy Duracell USB charger, which you're interested in.
Carl:
Yeah, this is what's caught my eye, so this is a ... what's it about, an inch-and-a-half high? - a tiny little thing.
Nick:
It's about the size of someone's thumb.
Carl:
And this just plugs into a car's 12 volt cigar lighter, cigarette lighter, and on the top it has a USB socket. So why would this be a good thing to have?
Nick:
Well, it's extremely small, it fits in the glove box perfectly whilst you're not using it, it sits only about five millimetres above the actual socket for the car cigarette lighter, you can then use it to charge your iPod, your iPhone, BlackBerries, any kind of mobile device that will charge from a USB. A lot of customers have bought it as a replacement for sat nav chargers as well, a lot of the sat nav chargers are quite bulky in comparison to the actual unit, when this is an ideal replacement for those.
Carl:
I see there's a little sort of light panel on the top - does that glow or something?
Nick:
It does, it lights up blue, it looks very neat and expensive.
Carl:
Excellent, and the retail price on this, Nick?
Nick:
Is £9.99.
We couldn't find an online supplier for the Duracell car adapter - perhaps it's too new. We did find a very similar model at Maplins for £5.99 - the Micro DC USB Adapter
